GCS Scales the Peaks - June 2010

Wednesday, 14 July 2010

Despite hail stones and gale force winds, a team from (Reading-based) GCS Recruitment Specialists has successfully completed the daunting annual CARE IT Three Peaks Challenge – and raised over £7000 in the process. Teams taking part in the Challenge have to complete a non-stop climb of the three highest peaks in Great Britain: Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Snowdon in Wales. Although weather conditions were atrocious, GCS’s team of Chris Bartlett, Ashley Cox, Amanda Cleary, Charlotte Deakin-Smith, Charlie O’Loughlin and Matt Randall completed the three climbs in a creditable 26 hours 31 minutes. Eighteen teams from across the IT sector took part in the Challenge and have to date raised over £100,000 in total. GCS’s Managing Director Chris Bartlett commented: “It was a gruelling but thoroughly rewarding experience. Despite the difficult weather conditions, particularly on the final scramble down Scafell Pike, we managed to complete the Challenge in just over 26 hours. I’m so proud of our team and delighted that we’ve exceeded our £6000 fundraising target.” CARE International works in 70 countries with more than 59 million poor and marginalised people each year to find a way out of poverty. CARE Challenge is the fundraising arm of CARE International, organising and running mountain-based and multi-activity events.
